Is hypnosis the same as meditation or mindfulness?
Not exactly. Hypnosis, meditation, and mindfulness share some similarities, such as focused attention and increased awareness, but they are different practices with different goals.
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment with openness and curiosity. The focus is typically on observing thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, or experiences without trying to change them.
What is meditation?
Meditation is a broad term that includes many different practices. Some forms of meditation focus on relaxation, concentration, compassion, visualization, or mindfulness. The goal varies depending on the type of meditation being used.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis typically involves a state of focused attention combined with guided suggestions, imagery, or reflection. Rather than simply observing thoughts, hypnosis often aims to support a specific outcome, such as building confidence, changing habits, improving sleep, or exploring new perspectives.
How are they similar?
All three approaches may involve focused attention, reduced distractions, relaxation, greater self-awareness, and reflection and personal growth. Because of these similarities, some people find it difficult to distinguish between them.
How does Subrise use these approaches?
Subrise draws inspiration from multiple approaches, including mindfulness, meditation, self-hypnosis, psychology, and behaviour change science. Depending on the session, you may experience elements of one or several of these approaches working together. The focus is not on fitting into a specific category, but on creating an experience that supports your goals and wellbeing.
